Printing and trimming

  1. Check the size

Print one page of spines on plain paper first and hold it against the binder pocket. Adjust width or height by a millimetre if needed.

  2. Print at 100%

In the print dialog choose Actual size or 100% and turn off headers and footers. Pages use 5 mm margins, which most home printers can reach.

  3. Cut on the dashed lines

Spines sit side by side with a 3 mm gap, so one straight cut separates each one. Covers are a full page and slide straight into the front pocket.

  4. Keep the set

The list and settings stay in this browser, so next term you only change the year and print again.

Frequently asked questions

What size should a binder spine label be?

Measure the clear pocket or label holder on your binder's spine: the width across and the height from top to bottom. US view-binder inserts are roughly as wide as the ring size (about 25 mm for a 1 inch binder, 50 mm for 2 inch). European lever arch files commonly take 39 mm or 61 mm wide labels about 285 mm long. Use a preset as a start, then type your measurement.

Why does my spine label print smaller than expected?

The print dialog is probably set to Fit to page. Choose 100% or Actual size, and turn off headers and footers. The labels are laid out in millimetres at true size.

Can I print only the spine labels?

Yes. Choose Spines only. As many spines as fit side by side are placed on each page, with dashed cut lines.

Can I reprint just one binder label?

Yes. Choose the binder on the shelf, then set Which binders to Only the selected binder. It prints with the same number and colour it has in the set.

Which way should spine text run?

Bottom to top is common on European files and reads when your head tilts left; top to bottom is common on English-language book spines. Wide labels, 55 mm and more, can also use horizontal text.

Does the site store my titles online?

No. Everything is generated in your browser and saved only in this browser's local storage.
